The Interventional Radiology Department at Lenox Hill Hospital has provided innovative, minimally invasive therapies for the treatment of a wide range of medical conditions for decades. Interventional radiologists are physicians who receive their initial training in diagnostic radiology (learning to interpret studies such as CAT scans, ultrasound and MRI) and then receive specialized training in performing advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures using imaging guidance. Our interventional radiologists are board certified by the American College of Radiology in both diagnostic radiology and interventional radiology and are members of the Society of Interventional Radiology. Almost all the procedures we perform involve very small incisions and are done under light sedation. Many procedures are performed on an outpatient basis or require only a short hospitalization. In some cases, these therapies have replaced more invasive surgical therapies in the treatment of certain diseases—and that means a shorter recovery period. With access to the vast resources of Northwell Health, we collaborate with multidisciplinary medical and surgical teams to provide the best and most effective care.
